Music

At Orchard, we have a structured programme of Music teaching using the Kapow scheme. This is delivered throughout the school and is linked through the creative curriculum where relevant. Our music teaching enables children to develop music appreciation and enhance their own musical skills. Guitar, piano and drumming tuition through the ‘Wider Opportunities’ scheme, is provided by Midland Music Services and Pulse Beats.

The aims of music teaching are to enable children to:

  • Know and understand how sounds are made and then organised into musical structures;
  • Know how music is made through a variety of instruments;
  • Know how music is composed and written down;
  • Know how music is influenced by the time, place and purpose for which it was written;
  • Develop the interrelated skills of performing, composing and appreciating music.
